FAQ About GG’s Yard Wedding Venue
Located in South West Scotland, our wedding venue GG’s Yard is in beautiful Dumfries & Galloway.
So what is GG’s Yard? GG’s Yard is a 250 year old converted barn steading suitable for weddings and events. It is a truly exceptional restored farm steading which is perfect for a hosting a day of wonderful memories.
In this blog we answer some of the most common questions our couples ask us when booking their special day at GG’s Yard.
How far is it to travel to the wedding venue from Glasgow or Edinburgh?
We are based in a beautiful rural part of South West Scotland, Dumfries & Galloway however GG’s Yard is not actually too far from the big cities. If you’re looking for a wedding venue near Edinburgh or a wedding venue near Glasgow, why not take a look at GG’s Yard? For those travelling from Edinburgh, we are just under three hours and for those coming from Glasgow, you’ll reach Laggan in just under two hours. As we have accommodation on site, your guests won’t have to travel far after the wedding either. We’re also just 40 minutes from Dumfries.
Do you require a minimum number of guests?
For our weekend weddings, we have a minimum number of 90 adult day guests. After you book your wedding day and secure your date, our venue manager will send you these details.
Do you have accommodation on site?
Yes we have Sea View Snugs, Cairnharrow Cottage and Laggan Behind – all a short walk from the wedding venue GG’s Yard. On booking we’ll hold 50% of our Snugs for your guests to stay over the wedding weekend.
Many of our brides book Carinharrow Cottage to spend the night before their wedding.
Laggan Behind is our latest property added to our on-site accommodation list. A beautiful family house, Laggan Behind is a week-long let and ideal for couples wanting to make the most of their wedding week.
After you’ve booked you’ll receive our ‘Bride Book’ which features additional accommodation nearby including details about our new accommodation, The Murray Arms in Gatehouse of Fleet.
How much do the Snugs costs?
Our standard Snugs vary in price to our hot tub Snugs. You can find the prices online or by emailing [email protected]
Is there a honeymoon suite?
Two of our Snugs we call ‘honeymoon’ Snugs as they offer more privacy and touches. These are High Haven and The Nest.
Can guests stay on for breakfast the next morning?
Yes! Guests are welcome to book a table at Gather the next morning and enjoy a delicious breakfast and tea and coffees.
How much is venue hire and does this include cost of ceremony wing?
We created a cost calculator to help couples work out indicative costs for our wedding venue. The first part of the calculator shows the venue hire and yes, this does include the use of the ceremony wing.
Can we see wedding menus?
As we regularly update and change our wedding reception menus, we don’t send sample menus. Six months before the wedding, your allocated wedding coordinator will go through menus with you. After this you will have an opportunity to sit down with Head Chef Jamie to discuss the types of dishes you would like to have.
Can we come for a site visit?
Absolutely! Vicki will show you around GG’s Yard and sit down with you to find out what you’re looking for and answer any questions you might have. However for those that don’t live near our part of Scotland, Vicki can also show you around via FaceTime or Skype.

Is GG’s Yard wedding venue dog friendly?
During your ceremony, one small to medium family dog can join in the celebrations. Your dog must be on a lead at all times and then must leave the building after the ceremony when the drinks reception starts.
Can we bring own wine and drinks?
We do not allow brides to bring their own wine and drinks. GG’s Yard bar hosts a wide choice of ales, wine, spirits and soft drinks to suit your tastes and budgets. From house wine to specialists’ gins, local brews and personalized cocktails – we provide it all. You can choose a drinks package, set up a tab or have a paid bar – the choice is entirely yours.
Is there room for a ceilidh?
Yes! Would it be a Scottish wedding venue without room for a good old Scottish ceilidh?
Can we see a rough estimate of costs?
You can use our cost calculator to find out indicative costs. This includes venue hire, food costs and if you want to hire any accessories.
Can we bring in our own caterers?
Unfortunately this is not possible at GG’s Yard as we have our own amazing in-house kitchen team! Our Head Chef Jamie and his team will work with you to create a mouth-watering menu for your wedding breakfast. From canapes and main wedding breakfast through to evening food options, our meals use only the finest, locally sources and seasonal ingredients. We do allow you to work with external suppliers for the wedding cake!
Can our guests throw confetti?
In the ceremony wing, a small amount of bio-degradable confetti can be used and your guests can also throw natural petals outside.
Can we use sparklers?
Yes for a photoshoot. Our staff and security will supervise all sparkler activity and our wedding coordinator will work with you to prearrange sparkler use at your wedding. Sparkler activity usually takes place around 9pm.
Can we use candles on the table and in the wedding venue?
Naked flames which are fully enclosed are allowed on tables and in the ceremony wing.
