Free Child Friendly Activities
Here in Scotland, the summer holidays are officially here and we are so fortunate to have an abundance of activites for children to do in the area. We understand summer holidays can get expensive so we’ve put together our top child friendly activities and things to do that won’t cost a penny!
Find Fairies
Did you know we have fairies in Dumfries and Galloway?! You can go on a magical adventure with your wee ones and find fairies at the Galloway Faerie Trail at Barstobrick near Ringford.

Den Building
Using sticks of all shapes and sizes, who can create the biggest and most impressive den? Cally Woods is the ideal den building place in Gatehouse of Fleet, just a 5 minute walk from The Murray Arms!

Spot Red Squirrels
Our region is home to the protected and beautiful red squirrels. Head out to Barhill Wood in Kirkcudbright to see if you can spot any!

Sandcastles and shells
Head down to Mossyard and build sandcastles, forts and all sorts of shapes! What shells can you find?

Swimming and Picnics
Go for a cycle on the Raider’s Road and head to the Otter Pools for a refreshing dip and a picnic!

Whale Bones
Park the car at GG’s Yard car park and head up to the giant whale bones at the top of the hill! The views are out of this world and your children can spot all sorts of animals and wildlife from the top!

ospreys
Head over to Threave Castle just outside Castle Douglas for a beautiful walk around the historic site. For over a decade, the site is home to nesting ospreys which you can visit from a viewing platform.

Gatehouse of Fleet Playground
A short stroll through the town, you’ll find Gatehouse of Fleet Children’s Park. The playground features a wide range of equipment designed to engaged and challenge over 50 children of all ages and abilities.
