Indonesian Flavours: Last Year’s Highlights & What’s Coming Up!

We’re excited to once again host BBC Master Chef semi-finalist Endang Telfer at Gather for a night filled with the rich and vibrant flavours of Indonesia. Here’s a quick look back at last year’s event and a preview of what’s in store this time around!

Wanting to cook Indonesian food for John and Gregg, Endang applied for BBC MasterChef and managed to get through to the semi finals in 2023!

Last Year’s kitchen take-over: A Delicious Success

On November 22nd, Endang took over our kitchen, bringing the vibrant flavours of her East Bornean roots to Gather. The evening kicked off with a warm Indonesian spiced drink, ‘jamu’, setting the mood for the dishes ahead!

Guests savoured a menu featuring dishes like Indonesian chicken soup, aromatic beef rendang and sweet treats like Onde Onde rice balls. Endang’s passion shone through as she spoke to guests, sharing stories from her time on ‘MasterChef’ and her love for Indonesian cooking. With 60 guests in attendance, the night was a true celebration of food and culture.

This September: An Invitation to Indulge Again

We are thrilled to partner with Endang once again for another kitchen takeover on September 25th. This year, Endang is bringing a brand-new menu that showcases her creativity and deep love for Indonesian cooking. The evening will begin at 6pm with the familiar comfort of ‘jamu’, followed by a delicious array of dishes:

  • Starters: Choose between the Rendang pithivier served with sweet pickle and salad or the Nasi urap, a mix of steamed and raw salad dressed in chillies and spiced shredded coconut.
  • Mains: Indulge in options like roast lamb with fried rice, crispy prawn, and chicken satay peanut sauce, or enjoy the Sayur Lodeh, a comforting vegetable stew with bamboo shoots and tofu in spiced coconut milk.
  • Desserts: Save room for Bubur sum sum, a delightful Indonesian rice pudding with caramelised palm sugar syrup, or try the unique Gandhos doughnuts made with desiccated coconut
