GG's Yard

Laggan Real Wedding – Stephen and Hannah

Featuring a rustic theme with hints of green, white and deep purples, Hannah and Stephen were married at GG’s Yard in September and had an unforgettable day with friends and family. We caught up with Hannah to find out more about her special day at GG’s Yard!

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELVES, HOW DID YOU MEET AND WHAT DID YOU WANT AS YOUR WEDDING DAY?

Stephen and I live in Manchester, but I’m from Ayrshire and he’s from Oxfordshire.  We’ve been together for 8 years and you can probably guess that we met at university. Stephen proposed to me on the beach at Cardoness, a place that holds so much meaning to me and it was beautiful.

Why did you choose GG’s Yard?

We chose GG’s Yard because I’ve always had a caravan at Cardoness and I absolutely love this part of the world. I was so thrilled that Laggan turned into a wedding venue and when we went to visit GG’s Yard for the first time, there was just absolutely nowhere else I would dream of getting married.

HOW DID YOU STYLE GG’S YARD? WAS THERE A theme?

The overall theme was rustic, so we had lots of greenery and wooden styling. The bridesmaids all wore different shades of green and our flowers were all foliage with hints of white and deep purples.

Can you give us any details about the dress and kilt?

My dress was from Aimee Bridal Couture in Glasgow and the designer was Madi Lane. It was the first dress I tried on, which I absolutely did not expect! The girls at ABC in Glasgow were just absolutely amazing and made me feel so special throughout the whole experience, I can’t recommend them enough.

Stephen’s kilt was from MacGregor and MacDuff, his granddad was Scottish so he was wearing his own family Hunting Stewart tartan which was just really lovely. The groomsmen all rented their kilts and we went for a mixture of modern McKenzie tartan and Black Watch tartan and we just got some deep green ties from M&S.

What flowers did you go for?

Our florist was GG’s Yard’s in house florist Belles and Thistles. Maybelle did such a fantastic job of executing our vision to perfection. To start the process we just sent some pictures for an idea of costs, then had a brief meeting to go through it all and then Maybelle just worked her magic.

What food choice did you go for and why?

For the food, we both picked our ideal menu from the list and then that became our two options for each! A great compromise. The food was INCREDIBLE and the portion sizes were the best I’ve ever seen at a wedding, we had such rave reviews from all of our guests.

Canapes: we had bang bang chicken skewers, haggis bon bons, onion bhajis and hallumi bites – we just wanted a bit of everything that all dietary requirements could have. They were all really delicious!

Starters: salmon salad with Asian dressing and chicken liver pate

Mains: Balmoral chicken and pork belly

Puddings: Sticky toffee pudding and chocolate orange parfait

Evening food: chicken tikka and macaroni pies – I just love a pie, especially a macaroni one, so this was such a treat

Do you have any special moments or highlights?

The whole day was a dream from start to finish, it truly was the best day ever. We got married at the beginning of September and we were a bit concerned about the weather, but we had the most beautiful September Scottish day, the sun shone from start to finish. A highlight for us was after we’d taken our couple shots on the hill by the Whale bones, we came back into the reception hall to see all of our closest friends and family all in one place. We were piped in by Stephen’s best man which was just so special and something that will stay with us forever.

What advice would you give to other couples going through planning a wedding?

Choose GG’s Yard, it’s beautiful and the team run it like absolute clockwork – on the day you don’t have to think at all because they have done all of the thinking for you. Special shoutout to Jo, Kerry and Alistair for being world class. The day goes by in an absolute flash, so take time to enjoy the little things and just have the best day ever!
