5 Places To Visit in Gatehouse of Fleet

The Murray Arms is located at the top of the picturesque town of Gatehouse of Fleet. A town blessed with a loyal community, great eateries and things to do and visit.

If you’re staying with us and need inspiration for places to visit or things to do, we’ve put together five of our favourite places to visit in Gatehouse of Fleet.

MILL ON THE FLEET

A restored cotton mill dating from 1785 which is now an exhibition centre. Run entirely by volunteers, Mill on the Fleet features 3 floors telling the story of Gatehouse and its surrounding area. The restored mill building also features an art gallery, secondhand bookshop, cafe and is the main tourist information point for Gatehouse.

GALLOWAY LODGE

Producers of the best quality and award winning preserves and condiments, Galloway Lodge is based in our beautiful town. You can visit the producer at their cafe and shop in the town and purchase some of their delicious products. We also have their jams at our breakfast!

wheels of fleet

Wheels of Fleet is a Community Cycling Group based in Gatehouse of Fleet. The group reconditions and repairs bikes amongst many other initiatives that encourage locals to pedal. Visitors to the town can visit the workshop and hire bikes for the day – the best way to explore our region.

The Book & Art Shop

Featuring a selection of secondhand and antiquarian books, The Book & Art Shop is located just metres from The Murray Arms. The shop sells beautiful art from the 1930s.

Cally Woods

Turn right out of the building and after a short 10 minute walk you’ll find Cally Palace and Woods. Filled with beautiful bluebells and snowdrops during the spring, the woods are a beautiful place to explore. You’ll find an array of wildlife and nature including oak, birch, sycamore and beech trees.
